Trump is the leader of a Cult

I just read in the New York Times that the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, will declare a “parliamentary recess” tomorrow, Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

There is nothing surprising about this measure. Some may say that Mike Johnson—a Conservative Christian leader who denies the Theory of Evolution, has for years advocated for prayer in schools, and opposes the separation of Church and State—is just another politician submissive to Donald Trump’s imperial ambitions.

In fact, it’s more than an imperial ambition. Mike Johnson is the representative of a personality cult. The personality is Trump. The cult goes by the name MAGA, the “Make America Great Again” movement.

For MAGA followers, Donald Trump can do no wrong. The most recent example is what has been happening regarding the scandal concerning financier Jeffrey Epstein, a pedophile and friend of Donald Trump, who supposedly committed suicide in prison in 2019. A report by the Wall Street Journal, a conservative daily, has brought to light a letter from Donald Trump to Epstein, exposing the closeness of their ties, along with photos, videos, trips on Epstein’s private jet, etc.

Initially, MAGA supporters were outraged by the fact that Donald Trump blocked the release of Epstein’s famous “client list,” after years of claiming it existed and implicated Democratic politicians like Bill Clinton.

Pam Bondi, Trump’s Attorney General, said she had the list “on my desk.” But, suddenly, nothing.

MAGA erupted in indignation. But now, gradually, after their leader Trump virtually declared, “Forget everything I said,” they are beginning to behave as cult followers always do: they bow their heads and do whatever their leader commands.

The United States has a long tradition of personality cults, some of them deeply disturbing, such as Pastor Jim Jones, who led more than 900 followers to a mass suicide, and Charles Manson, of the infamous “Manson Family,” who proclaimed himself a reincarnation of Jesus Christ and led his “faithful” on a murder spree.

Now, “parliamentary recess” emerges as a way to help the leader of the cult called MAGA deceive the faithful.
