AI is stupid

Imagine that I received a message from Elon Musk asking why I wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that “Artificial Intelligence is stupid.”

I wrote it because our dear Elon Musk has on X an AI device called Grok that automatically translates texts into English.

The results, in general, are ridiculous.

Just the other day, Grok translated a tweet about a “frango de Taffarel” as: “Taffarel’s chicken”…

That is, poor Grok doesn’t know who Taffarel was, nor does it have any idea what a goalkeeper’s frango is.

The correct translation of “frango de Taffarel” should have been “Taffarel’s howler.” That’s how, in football lingo, people refer in English to a serious and even comical mistake by the one responsible for stopping shots on goal.

Poor Grok, it has certainly never been to a football match.
