Did we want an “October Surprise”? Well, Joe Biden has just provided it, the day before the end of the month, exactly seven days before the Presidential Election.

Throughout his career, Joe Biden has been rather undisciplined with his words and the best thing he could have done for Kamala Harris right now would be to just keep out of the way. Keep quiet, keep mum, don’t say anything.

The truth is that Kamala has been burdened with the task of defending an unpopular President. Recently she was asked whether she thought the Biden administration should have done something different in the last four years and, after a slight pause, she said: “nothing comes to mind”.

She should in fact have said; “I was part of the administration, but I was not THE administration. Sometimes a Vice President’s opinion is overruled by the President, but this is not a subject that can be publicly discussed”.

Now, Joe Biden comes out of the blue and calls the Trump supporters “garbage”. This is eerily redolent of the infamous “deplorables” uttered by Hillary Clinton about the same Trump supporters in the 2016 election. An utterence that cost her the election.

Incredibly, Joe Biden has just scored a tragic own goal for the Democratic Party a few days before the 2024 election.

The same guy who was totally at a loss for words in the Presidential debate against Donald Trump - a loss for words that ultimately forced him to withdraw his candidacy - now is again in the limelight for coming up with a word that he should not have uttered at all.

As the old song says, “fools rush in where wise men never go”.
