The Great American Disaster

Make no mistake. The American people have willingly, out of their own accord, put a convicted felon back in the White House.

This last Presidential campaign was a protracted nightmare in the country that calls itself “The Leader of The Free World”. Nobody can say that they voted for Donald Trump by mistake because, throughout his campaign, Donald Trump never fooled anyone: his crude words, his nasty behavior, his racism, his misogyny, his unpleasantness, his threats -even his undeniable mental instability - were there, in plain sight. He insulted people freely, he lied with abandon, he made promises “to fix it'“ without ever offering concrete plans about how, he showed clearly that he is a crude, cruel, unhinged despot to be.

His former Chief of Staff, a four-star Marine general, said “Donald Trump is a fascist to the core”. Who conceivably could know Donald Trump better that a man who worked at his right hand every day in the White House?

Yet, the American people elected Donald Trump. Once again.

Joe Biden bears a lot of responsibility for this disaster. He betrayed his promise, when elected in 2020, of not running for a second term as an 81 year old man. Halfway through his presidency Joe Biden was already out of his depth, stumbling over his words and his steps. I myself will never forget the day in Normandy when people had to go and rescue that bewildered person who had been left behind, staring into space, not knowing where he was or what he was supposed to be doing, and bring him back to the place where the other Heads of State - the clearheaded ones - were waiting for him. When Kamala Harris was rushed in as a replacement, the damage had been done.

And this is not even to mention Joe Biden’s terrible non-performance at the only debate he had with Donald Trump.

Yet we have to face the atrocious truth: Donald Trump has bonded with a majority of the American people. A majority of the American people wants Trump exactly as he is: a scam artist, a brazen fraud, a man who incited a mob to invade the Capitol, a man who stole Government papers, a man who tried to force officials in Georgia to “find” him 12,000 votes, a man who was unanimously convicted of 34 criminal charges by a jury of citizens.

Yes: a majority of the American people - even women, even blacks, even latinos - has put back in the White House this strange, crude person covered in orange make up, even though he has clearly demonstrated that he wants to be a dictator, not a president.

All the rest of the world can do is watch The Great American Disaster.
